Alcohol.*

And a low boredom threshold.

Hmm - I suspected as much, if you do want to find a quiet spherical chamber in which to imbibe and relive your boredom threshold I suggest you look at my first metaphysical post...

Cannot comment on the painting, but I've just finished turning the first piece of 4 pieces of brass for the good Herr Doktor. Need to drill some holes and cut some threads, but I'm turning all the bits first.

And no. I am not going to reveal what they are for on the Thunderbuss. Or even if they are for said item.

So ner.

Second piece of brass is now off the lathe and holes have been bored through both. Grin

Two more bits to turn, and then drilling and thread cutting will commence.

Still not telling! ner!

OK, I bow to popular pressure, and shall tease no more.

I don't think I'm giving too much away by revealing that I'm making the levers and internals for the "Mode Selector" on the Thunderbuss. (At least I hope I am not giving too much away. Apologies to the good Herr Doktor if I've 'leaked' this too soon!)

Here's the finished internal brass disks & spindles, drilled and tapped M3 thread for the levers to screw into:

And the two pieces sat together to show how they'll be together inside the mechanism...

The larger piece has been bored through with a 5mm hole as requested to accept the threaded rod he’s using to hold it all together with.

I’m seriously chuffed that he’s asked me to turn the brass internal mechanism - after all he does propmaking for a living!  Grin

That's looking great, Mr. Clough: and retroactively, I give you permission to post pictures! Smiley

(It's not so much that I let him do it, more that he wanted some practice, he owed me a favour, and I'm not so good at turning brass!)

Mr. Taggert: PM sent, sorry it's late Wink

Mimmoths are a protected species, so no hunting them...

In other news, I've turned the levers, and cut the M3 threads on the ends of them and I'll pop the finished brass parts in the post to Herr Doktor tomorrow.

Who said anything about them being hunted?

given elephants are allegedly scared of mice, would mammoths be scared of mimmoths?

I dunno, given the size difference you'd have sheep sized wooly maimmoths. Could make for some very warm wool for knitting. Plus, it would be alot better size for a child's personal time travelling machine than a fully groan mammoth...

Yes, but if the offspring took after the Mimmoth, imagine the size of the holes in the skirting board!

There's precedent.
At that size, they burrow through the whole wainscotting though...

Use metal girders for skirting boards and claim that you are making an ironic statement...

My only concern is that if these threads started to weave together we could have mimmoths interbreeding with wibbles - then where would we be?

Ironic waiscotting would not stop mimble, let alone a wibmoth!

On another note - just how is the dastardly thunderbus progressing? I am keen to see the finished item so I may draw inspiration and then follow my own two handed ray emmitting device through to its conclusion.
