Then there was that episode with the brass plaque... your dental hygienist was right put out that time.

Lovely start to a stand there sir.
Could the copper tubes have little decorative curly brackets that brace the tubes to the wood?
Like a decorative shelf bracket does?
Hmmmm?

Definitely a great start, I agree such a masterpiece requires a more elaborate stand. I was thinking maybe some ornate ends that flare outward on the top of the copper end caps as well (the ones at the top )
Bravo!

then perhaps a name plate...
I don't think I said this yet: I hope you know the Blunderbuss is an Anglicization of the Dutch donderbuse, which means "thunder gun". Just saying.

personaly i think an overy ornait stand would detract from the piece itself, shine up the copper stain & varnish the wood and add a subtle name plague plaque and the job's done.
p.s i dont supposed your looking for an apprentice are you Herr Döktor?

Actually, it was a coincidence, an happy accident, if you like: I settled on 'Thunderbuss' before doing any research, later the occasionally reliable Wikipedia told me that blunderbuss comes via the Dutch for Thunder Gun- isn't it nice when the Universe conspires in ones favour? Duringst the Meanwhilst: The stand is done: And a close up: The wooden base has been treated with a slap up feed of bangers and m... NO! Wait, treated with a coat of red mahogany oil, then a coat of oak oil, as the mahogany wasn't dark enough, then it was distressed by being hit with various blunt and sharp tools (incidentally, I have found that if one looks at an object one is distressing in this way, the distressing looks 'false', but if you you look the other way while hitting it, the distressing is much more random), then some selective singing with a small blowtorch, the copper pipe and brass fittings have been rubbed back and polished, with a final rubbing with black grate polish. Both the wooden base and the metal parts have been lacquered with acrylic varnish, or is it varnished with acrylic lacquer? Finally, the base has a piece of self-adhesive green baize, so as not to scratch the good furniture. COMING SOON: A brass plague plaque, just as soon as I pop over to the neighbour that runs a trophy engraving business.

Even Kermit is gazing on in admiration (unless he's just wondering if he can get to the phone to call for help?). It will look complete with the brass plaque on the stand.

It wasn't that way back Herr Dök, I remember it, in all its' hair-dryer-ish glory Speaking of which, we haven't forgotten about the steam pistol...what happened to your grand plans? The looks good, and I can relate to the fake looking distressing..it is hard to get a well worn look that has happened over hundreds of years, rather than 5 minutes with a chain Can't wait for the brass plaque!

It wasn't that long ago, but it was a wander down memory lane to read the thread agian- nostalgia, it's not what it used to be! I've actually done a little bit more to the Steam Pistol, I might get back to finishing it off before I start the next big project...

Then the Tin-Bitz is no more? Sorry to hear, my condolenses. In the meantime, as I'm taking a snow day, I thought I'd have a go at the plaque: Just a little more tweaking and I'll print it out as a decal and apply it to a piece of brass sheet, then all I need to do is fabricate a stand for it.
