Greetings...
I suppose it's high time I introduce myself. I have after all been browsing these aetherboards for a few weeks now, gleaning information and insights. Before teasing you with the aforementioned artifact, I shall provide a bit of background. I am Lord Duncan MacNamara, and my interests are many... In the
SCA, I am the Captain of the
'Iron Lotus', a 12 gun Pirate Galleon. In the (real) Jedi community, I am called Master Kyp (Rev. Josh McNamara), having been ordained as a Jedi Clergyman in real life through the Temple of the Jedi Order out of Beaumont Texas.
(For clarification, please don't heckle... we don't worship George Lucas, nor do we go around pretending to fight Sith. The real philosophies are a bit different than the fiction.)
~EDIT~ To further clarify, I am not inviting nor trying to start a religious discussion. Please don't remove my post, as I was merely providing some of my background. Thanks!
I am also an amateur Blacksmith, and I dabble in leatherwork, woodwork, and electronics as well. I like to create things, as well as modify and tinker with existing work. I craft knives, ornamental metalwork, ceremonial Lightsaber hilts, armor, artifacts, experiments, etc. I was recently turned on to Steampunk by a friend of mine, who eloquently pointed out that my work reminded him of the Steampunk genre... I believe I have since been hooked.
Enough rambling from me, however... Here is what you really came to see. This was one of my first "steampunk"-style works, even before I realized that's the niche it fit. I crafted this "Antique" Jedi training remote from brass, bronze, and steel found parts. It is, to my knowledge, the only all-metal Jedi Training remote crafted to date:

It is very solid... I found the big brass ball at a junk store in downtown Shawnee. The emmitters are bronze bushings, the sensor strips are cut brass sheet, and the other bits are copper washers, lamp screws, steel allen-head machine bolts, and brass staunchion nails. I hope you enjoy... thus far it has been quite the conversation piece.
