To answer a question posed... the giant creatures eating the 'tater chips were giant isopods:

All in all, very horrendus looking, and utterly fascinating creatures.

To add to this topic, I'm not trying to steal anyone's thunder... but I am thinking of building something similar as this has inspired me. I have a 10 gallon Biorb-style fishtank, which is the perfect, and properly-equipped base for such an endeavor. (Please no "animal welfare" drivel... I have been keeping aquatic life for a while now, and this tank is DESIGNED for fish.) Here's the basic look of these lovely tanks:
