There's one or two for sale on eBay too.

I can't imagine the looks on fellow commuters faces as the phone rings and you pulla huge old fashioned handset out of your pocket  Grin

Had a trip out to Brighton today, saw a lot of stuff that could be used, only problem was it was all to damn expensive.
so this week i am going to have to make most of the bits. ill take photos as i go along and post them as on here if people want, ill do a few mods to the phone as well ive got an old samnsung and a nokia , so if i find the chargers ill use them.
i was toyimg using the handle on the side to wind up a dynamo to charge the battery, ive got on old wind up torch that i can trash , i mean mod as well.

you can buy wind up phone chargers quite cheaply, certainly cheap enough to take apart and modify. Smiley

are you looking for a gramophone or electric wind up record player?

If I may make a suggestion, decasing one of these and placing it in a more period-appropiate body would seem to eb the way to go for the reciever/headset/handset. For the body of the phone itself, I like the idea of a pocketwatch, but am baffled as to where the buttons would go. Perhaps ringing the edge, with send and end as the watch buttons?

Ideally both, but a wind up record player would be more useful given that I only own one "78 shellac"

I know that there are one or two battery powered record players so a wind-up one would be possible?

what if the body was in some other portable device like a cigarette case, hip flask, or molskine diary? that would give you more surface area to work with

I LOVE the concept of hiding it inside a small book, though it does make me think of Inspector Gadget. A cigarette case would be particularly cool if the controls could be rigged to pop up when it was opened. God damn it, I might have to do one of these myself.

Edit: Actually, for the pocketwatch idea, this could be promising. A ring around the edge you can use to dial it, or repurposing the twist knob, perhaps?

I actually have quite a bit of experience moding Nokia cellphones like the 3310 and 3330. They are great phones for hacking. Hit me up if you have any questions about the electronics, I've torn them and pu them back together many times.

Here is my attempt at creating a steampunk cell phone.

like you, I can't make a good case, but I'm okay with electronics. You might look into the rotary switch interface that I used, I'd still like to go back and try it on another project if I ever get a chance.

What about building a pic base switch unit, possibly touch sensitive, ive used most of the pic range, but the easiest and quickest so far is the picaxe,http://www.rev-ed.co.uk/picaxe/.
At the moment i feel like im using steam powered internet, if i am ive got a dogdy valve somewhere, it keeps dropping out.
Picaxes are brilliant for serial, A/D, i2c, lcd displays, servo driving and they even play tunes.
worth having a look into.
If i can help just ask ( fatal mistake this).

Here is the first pictures of the parts, and measurements

ALL NUMBERS ARE MILLIMETRES - I'm Danish, I only do metrics Wink

I sincerely apologize for the horrific state of the pictures - it's my cameraphone...

The main PCB - it can be placed anywhere, since all the connectors can (and probably will be) extended
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The display and the speaker
They can both be removed from the plastic they're attached to, since they're just pressed in
Top number is diameter of speaker
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Antenna
Just a small piece of metal - not really anything special - but it has to be placed near the outer casing - and away from the face
And not behind metal

To quote (out of context) the good Mr. Lancelot Brown, this looks like it has great capability for improvement.
