Dog carts were very big in the Victorian era and they were even mentioned in Sherlock holes novels ...So what am I getting at how'd you steampunk one maybe some gas lights of some sorts give it that older antique look  but I am unsure of the style and that is where  I need your help cause I like the idea of a chariot or a sit down type of sulky or heck just a backpack dirigible with enough buoyancy too keep me aloft  and have the canine tow me around.... OK so that is some food for thought  lets hear some of your ideas

Is this the threadjacking thread, emblash9?

Anyway, this picture shows a bit more about mushing.

Steampunking a dog cart? I'd go for a chariot with a huge, strong dog. Or a sulky with a big pack of small dogs like smooth fox terriers. Or, if you really want to go crasy, your backpack dirigible with a huge pack (about 100) of Chihuahuas or Papillon dogs.

How about a dogcart version of those magnificent Victorian Hearses with the black plumes etc?

I'd put a note in my Will to rent it for the big day.

I get the impression that dog carts were hugly popular in more level areas. I would have thought that a hard working dog would cost at least as much to feed as a horse, since for a dog it's basically meat. But a stylish Victorianesque dog cart to pootle around the park in would be a lot of fun.

Colour schemes: all black, or red gold and green. For the sake of the dog(s) keep the structure light and simple, with big wheels for easy rolling.

Ahem. Don't get confused between one of these and one of these. But carts pulled by dogs are a smashing idea.

As for feeding, it would only cost a horse, surely? (ducks and runs!)

Hey thanks for the speedy replies I like some of the ideas but I'm definitely open to more I would like to see one of these Victorian hearses that are mentioned the dogs that I have are European boxers so they should be plenty strong to pull anything that I desire as my male will be topping out at around 100 pounds I was thinking if I could a hot air balloon that when not in use would fold up into a rooftop container but that would have to be on a stagecoach style of vehicle...sure would get attention at the local park or maybe I could run it as a taxi here in my small town the possibilities are endless so I think the chariot and or sulky would be the way to go for now as the turning radius might not be sharp enough if I go with the dogsled style but thank you for the idea I'll have to store it on the back burner. I guess this is all my nonsense ramblings that I need to do for now... Thanks again for the good ideas and by all miens please keep them coming

My impression is that single-axle carts (for whatever draught animal) were preferred (at least in Britain and Europe) for precisely this reason; two-axle wagons were used primarily for heavier loads. On the other hand, a wagon with the old-style centre-pivot steering has a turning radius which is not much more than its own length.

As for feeding... (ducks and runs!)

Ok so I was having wierd dreams all night must of been something I ate any ways I was thinking about the maneuverability of the vehicle in question and thought that if I went with the dogsled idea as a main structure of my vehicle then to make it steampunkish  what if I had it floating not really flying but floating so then there would be no weight on the animals in question that were towing it around so it could be long and aerodynamic  but still turn on a dime use a survival candle to keep the heat up in the balloons cause you can get the super long lasting ones or I was thinking something Gypsy ish a vardo maybe still a toss up so please people I need your ideas thanks again
