Perhaps the writer(s) of DW should take a leaf from the writers of Hollyoaks...wait! wait! hear me out....take a leaf from Hollyoaks and do a 'late night/post watershed' version where they can have really scary monsters and/or violence etc ('adult themes'). Maybe that would keep some of the complainers on here happy?

I can see where you are coming from Capt. Isn't that what Torchwood tried to do? Trouble is, it became a vehicle for the writer's own preferences and spent so much time there that they missed the other opportunities, though the last Torchwood was pretty edgy with the extermination camps. Isn't part of Dr.Who horror that it is the 'behind the sofa, looking through your fingers' type of horror? It needs to be dark enough to give you the shivers without nightmares (well not too many...) My personal preference for an adult spin off series would be one featuring Madame Vastra and Jenny. That would feature Dr.Who as the mediating influence and would have a nice Sherlock feel and meets all the Captain's criteria - really scary monsters and/or violence etc ('adult themes') or even "really scary monsters and violent adult themes" - that tongue of Vastra's could do some proper damage!

What happened about that?

There is wide appreciation for such a series but the most common response is that Moff would love to do it but doesn't have the time! Does a Dr.Who season split over two years and 3 episodes of Sherlock constitute a full load? I have no experience so wouldn't know. News paper articles suggest he does not take any time off!

Give it to Paul Cornell, Human Nature/Family of Blood shows he could do this properly. The Beeb need to assert control and tell Moff not to be a writing hog. This isnt the first time a showrunner has treated Doctor Who as his personal fiefdom, JNT and RTD did so before him and those are not examples to follow. What's Moff's middle name/initial.
A Scandal In Belgravia shows where Moff invested his energy and imagination, this could be his Blink for Sherlock. His Christmas special is exceptionally lazy and dull in comparison, you could not believe the same writer is responsible for both.

In the Sandman comic series there was a spin off/parallel title called Sandman Mystery Theatre where a detective character acquired 'some' of the powers of a much more powerful character Dream [aka The Sandman] I like the similar idea of a Jackson Lake spin off, In my mind it would be a sort of Doctor Who "lite", in the vein of the SJ Adventures but set in Victorian London dealing with lesser monsters and probably fighting crime and social injustice into the bargain, aided and abetted by his feisty side-kick Rosita.

I seem to remember that the last spin-off I heard about that had received (apparently almost instant) approval was the sapphic Victorian duo. Although over the last few series I'd say more than enough potential spin-offs have been created to keep speculation rife for years.

Doctor Who Spinoff Announced Focusing on Amy & RoryThe BBC have announced a new Doctor Who spin-off show set to debut this fall in conjunction with the seventh season of the show: The Ponds. The show has a markedly laugh-track sitcom bent (with maybe a dash of Gilmore Girls) although that doesn’t preclude aliens or weird time shenanigans showing up in episodes. You can see the title sequence above. Don’t worry, it contains no spoilers for the forthcoming events of Doctor Who season 7. Who’s excited? We definitely are! Let’s cross our fingers for cameos by Matt Smith and Alex Kingston! Please make sure to read the spoiler below! From: http://www.tor.com/blogs/2012/01/doctor-who-spinoff-announced-focusing-on-amy-a-rory

My favourite Dr was the second one, Patrick Troughton, who, despite his credentials as a first class classical actor could turn his hand to intergalactic and trans-time shenanigans with great aplomb and the utmost class!!
I also remember the first Dr Who: I have lived through all his incarnations, so I KNOW!

Oh..! I'm sorry, I came over all faint at the thought of an Amy-Rory sitcom along those lines. (Where's my brandy snifter? Thanks!) Anyway... A Jackson Lake spin-off would be great. I really liked the characters in that. I agree, the Moff shouldn't be allowed to treat DW as his prize toy. Other writers and directors can do just as well, and often better than he, if allowed to run with it.

In Captain America, Jenna-Louise Coleman plays a Character called Connie, along with another character, Bonnie. She appears pretty low down in the cast list, Just below "Loud Jerk" but above "Young Doctor". However she has had recurring roles in two long running television dramas, (Soaps), (168 episodes of Emmerdale) and has a number of other Television credits, including the new "Titanic" mini series.

Funny how patterns emerge. Let's take a look at the classic series in conjunction with the new (2005+) series:
Serious Doctor - Jon Pertwee with glam/ordinary girl sidekick Katy Manning Serious Doctor - Chris Eccleston with glam/ordinary girl sidekick Billie Piper
Bonkers Doctor - Tom Baker with up for it sidekick Lis Sladen Bonkers Doctor - David Tennant with up for it sidekick Catherine Tate
Floppy-haired Doctor - Peter Davison with glam/gobby sidekick Janet Fielding (Tegan) Floppy-haired Doctor - Matt Smith with - well what will she be?
And following on from that - a new Adric anyone? As annoying and smart as Sheldon Cooper but not as funny. And he didn't look like a praying mantis.
Ladies, gentlemen, the floor is yours...

good to see theyve really stretched themselves on this casting decision she may end up be really good in the role but it does show a distinct lack of imagination
