This thread is dedicated to the past, present, future and alternate timelines of Doctor Who.
As said twice before: "Witty" comments, vitriol, name-calling etc. are not allowed and will only show everyone that you can't argue in a civilised manner. I'll send a special note to the moderators to keep this thread under close scrutiny, as it has been forced to regenerate two times. Quite fitting actually, but completely unnecessary.

I've just wallowed in old reminescences by watching the first of the Tom Baker/Sarah Jane Smith episodes. Including Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart and U.N.I.T. in their glorious old days.

i shall join in then. i have to say tom baker is my favorite doctor other than mr tenant, and for some reason the main episodes with him in that stick in my mind, were the one on the spaceship with strange bugs and cybermen, and the one where they were in the lighthouse with the swamp monster. and as i didnt get a chance to say it in the other thread I think this episode was the epitome of Tate's acting, it was really interesting to see the range of emotional acting she has achieved in the last few episodes, and though this series i have grown to love her character as it has developed, especially her family. the main sorrow for me was the ending, the fact that she can never remember the doctor without dying i think has made it one of the most final endings for a companion I've seen, at least most of the other notable ones have been put in a situation where there is always a chance for them to return, hell rose even managed to return from a parallel dimension, but this ending for Donna seemed rather final to me. also quote of the century: “So there’s three of you, three doctors?” Jack: “I cant tell you what i'm thinking right now.”

ok those would be : Ark in Space Revenge of the Cybermen (these 2 stories were set on NERVA Beacon) and The Horror of Fang Rock (Ruben the Rutan... I do hope they'll consider bringing back the Rutans.. we've had the Sontarans...)

I did not like Donna initially but also felt she greatly improved as time went on. The thing is... Just because she's gone doesn't mean she's "gone". They have brought back every other companion since the start of the new series and I suspect there will be some reason for her (who seemed to need the Dr.'s "improving" the most) to return and remember everything. Although it does irritate me that he said he wiped her memory 'but don't remind her or she'll die'. If her memory was wiped there should be nothing to remember JIT

Those of you hankering after the Brig, might like to read the spoiler below: Apparently, he'll be helping out Sarah-Jane Smith in the next series of the SJS Adventures, before making a return to the parent series in 2010!

The thing is... If her memory was wiped there should be nothing to remember JIT Well, does her "memory being wiped" mean that all of the information/memories/etc was actually removed from her mind completely (i.e. nothing to remember), or does it simply mean that she's been made to not remember it (ie. it's still there, just not accessible, unless triggered)?
Seems like erasing the information from her mind completely would require some serious re-wiring of Donna's mind, whereas giving her amnesia (making memories inaccessible, but not actually erasing them) would be much easier and more the Doctor's style.

I take "wiped" to mean wiped as opposed to blocked. Rewiring a brain doesn't seem like it sould be all that difficult in the new series, considering the Dr. reconstituted someone's face into a paving stone....gee, I was hoping I'd blocked that episode out of my own mind I've always thought that the Doctor must have had a memory block to hide certain event from his past from him and the block weakened with each regeneration. Which could explain why the 1st Dr. didn't seem to know what he was doing half the time and why he seemed to gain more experience and regain memories with each incarnation. JIT

I aways thought the love life of that couple must leave a lot to be desired. But I'm sure their devotion to each other is set in stone.......No? Rock solid?.....Nothing? Wow! Tough room! The only good thing about that episode IMO was that after we'd all seen it, I was able to announce to my friends that I was leaving my wife, having found a new love, then sent them all a picture of a brick in thong underwear JIT

She loaned me the 'bottom floss' I used for the pic and happily the three of us are still together JIT

I think my fave ever Dr Who story is Inferno... if only for the insane number of ideas and implications squeezed into what was [and probably still is] the bestever kids show for adults.
I also like Genesis of the Daleks for the whole SS/Gestapo vibe of the Kaled's and for the first appearance of Davros.
BTW does anyone out there have the Tristram Cary soundtrack CD 'Devils Planets'?

I like the Brain of Morbius episode (Fourth Doctor/Sarah Jane Smith), mainly for the Frankenstein vibes and the hamminess of the matriarchal cult I also like that episode where Seventh Doctor (Sylvester McCoy) is cornered by a Dalek who can go upstairs, much to his horror, whilst Ace is conked out on the other side of the door, that was scary.

'Brain of Morbius' does it for me- Dr. Who does Frankenstein, with a Timelord brain! And thankfully out on DVD soon!
'Devil's Planets'? hang on, I'll look...
EDIT: Yes, but only as mp3's...

I like the Brain of Morbius episode (Fourth Doctor/Sarah Jane Smith), mainly for the Frankenstein vibes and the hamminess of the matriarchal cult Ah yes, the Sisterhood of Karn- a very ultra feminist group! It's all a lot of fun, mad scientist, hunchback assistant, maiden in distress, a giant monster with a single human arm, a crab claw, a clear plastic skull and a Timelord brain, thunder, lightning, Gothic castles, caves and Tom Baker's boggle eyes! All in all, lots of fun! I also like that episode where Seventh Doctor (Sylvester McCoy) is cornered by a Dalek who can go upstairs, much to his horror, whilst Ace is conked out on the other side of the door, that was scary.
Yes, that one works for me as well, the final reveal of the Emperor Dalek always gives me goosebumps!
