Hello! Those of you following my 'Steampunk Space Helmet' build may have noticed that there has been a dearth of updates of late; here's why:

A commisioned build of a 1930's style Ray Gun, finished in a high gloss, erm, finish, with Alclad chrome accents, more pictures contained below:

Not very, it's only plastic and a material called chemiwood, sometimes known as modelboard- a lightweight shapeable material much used by modelmakers!

Hopefully, it will be available as a product at some point!

I, for one, would pay for it. It goes well with that aviator's cap and goggles.

Wow! Thanks HAC, that's EXACTLY what the brief for this project was: 1930s style with a nod to the 1950s!

Cheers to you too! Smiley

Well, thats it then. I think I'll just get my coat and quietly leave by the back door. You have an uncanny way of making my best efforts look just a little shabby.
What can I say? A truly stunning idea, and realized in a truly stunning way. To have even sketched such a well balanced design would have brought you much respect in itself, but to have built the darned thing to such a high standard as well....  bloody genius. I have no idea what you do for a living, but you should be doing this!
Weta? Eat your heart out. There's a new king in town!

There are many folks on the forum who are ray gun fanatics, and I'm afraid I'm usually not one of them - BUT - that deco design, construction & execution quality, and even the display are beyond superb Herr Döktor.  It is my all time fave ray weapon design. markf

Gosh! Like most Brits, I really don't know how to respond to praise, so I'll just say a slightly embarrassed 'Thank You'!  Embarrassed

In no particular order, I'll address the questions asked:
Ah, Herr Döktor, so my abuse of the time machine was successful! ...or is it just that brilliant minds think alike...?
I just happened to have the camera set up from 'photoing the gun, and, as ever, the flying gear was to hand, so, why not? Smiley
Are those initials S.V.? and what do they stand for?
I'm afraid that you'll have to wait until after the San Diego Comic Convention, until then it's a secret, don't tell anyone!
Since I'm Curious, I shall pose this question : Why are you so Awesome   Herr Döktor.

Well what I really mean is where did you learn to do this? Hobby or Work?
'Awesome' is in the eye of the beholder! Smiley And yes, I'm rather afraid that I do this sort of thing for a living!
Hey does the LED on the back end flash when the trigger is pulled? Is it even an LED at all o.o it looked like one to me
This is just a 'surface' model, IE non-functional, but within the backstory for this gun, it's an illuminated indicator: clear for 'off', green for 'stun, and red for 'kill', selected via the dials on th sides, and yes, I cheated and used a defunct LED!

 Okay.

I saw the sneak preview photograph yesterday in the Space Helmet thread, and I just transformed into a morass of awe, jealousy, despair, and yet more envy.

I think I've mostly gotten over it, or at least, well enough to tender congratulations to you, Herr Doktor.

 *sigh*

edit - you do know that red/green L.E.D.s do exist? They operate by having two 'ins' and one 'out'. You just run power into the 'in' for the color you want. It's fun to use! Would be quite easy to make an actual light-up indicator, I think.
