We all know about Charles Babbage, creator of the Difference Engine, the predecessor to the modern computer, and Ada Lovelace, the world’s first computer programmer. Did you know that they built mammoth difference engines the size of  buildings, fought crime, encountered salamander people, battled with the economy, fought off the alien invasion of 1898, raced steam engines with Brunel, raged against poetry and street musicians and made lengthy discourses about cheese? No? Well, then, time to educate yourself with this wonderful webcomic by professional animator Sydney Padua called 2D Goggles. You can read the webcomic here.

Should one find one’s self in the environs of New York City, why not treat yourself to a visit to the American Primitive Gallery where an exhibiton entitled ‘Visual Steampunk’ has been mounted for your edification and delight…

Featuring the work of such artistic luminaries as Gerard Cambon, Taras Von Hrechniw (who’s work is featured at the head of this post.), Jim Bauer and the enticingly named Anonymous (doesn’t he/she just get everywhere?)…

Running from the 26th of September to the 26th of November there is still plenty of time for investigation by interested parties….

I have reassuring news regarding the return of the Brass Goggles Forum…

Processes are now being put in to effect that should see the forum re-openned in the very near future (which is good news for me as my stick wielding arm is getting very sore…)

So, if I could ask everybody to keep their fingers crossed/pray/dance-round-ancient-stones/perform-what-ever-unusual-rituals-you-think-might-help over the next few days I’m convinced there will be a satisfactory outcome…

I have to have a little lie down now as I’m becoming unreasonably excited…

“Third Eye” is a piece by machinist/artist Wayne Martin Belger. It’s a pinhole camara that incorporates the 150 year old skull of an 13 year old girl child…

Now, what ever the moral conundrums of using bits of dead people for “art” maybe, one has to admit it takes a splendid picture…

Should one be considering constructing such an item I feel that it might be well to obtain the permission of the skulls owner to be immortalised in such a fashion…

(You may also wish to wait until they have shuffled off this mortal coil before proceeding…)

The return of the forum may take a little while longer as this is where the ‘issues of a technical nature’ arise…

But fear not as an army of highly skilled minions are at this moment being beaten with sticks beavering away at the various knotty conundrums that have presented themselves…

We hope for a favourable conclusion during October…

Dr. Grordbort’s Infallible Aether Oscillators & Other Marvelous Contraptions, that incredible factory of rayguns made by our friends at Weta Workshop in New Zealand, has created two beautiful new rayguns for sale. Pictured above is Lord Cockswain’s Ray-Blunderbuss “The Unnatural Selector” which should be more than enough for one wishing to go on an interplanetary safari. This beauty is quite the beast in terms of size! The Goliathon 800 Moon Hater Death Ray! Well, at least a scale model of it. The real one is perhaps situated in a hidden lair on top of a volcano in an island in the tropics or somewhere. This ray-cannon is for those of us who ever wanted to destroy the moon. And who hasn’t?

Guten Tag my fine compatriots, I hope you’ll forgive me for my lack of posts, however I was been hoping to attend an event before I posted again. Sadly, the fates have been conspiring against me and that was impossible. The event I’ve been itching to attend is “THE JOURNEYS OF PROF. PLEASANT PENNYWHISTLE and his Spatial Relocation Portal”. This show is performed by the fine people of Sound and Fury, and takes place on Thursdays in Los Angeles. I’ll be attending this Thursday (May 29th) and will post a review as soon as humanly possible.

Haruo Suekichi from Japan, whose stunning gallery of steampunk watches was previously featured on Brass Goggles, has now offered a few of his designs for sale at Chief Mag! These two beautifully handcrafted watches are available in two designs, male and female. Unfortunately these will be among the rarest of rares, for there will only be two of each for sale, and will cost a pretty penny. The male design costs $1200, while the female design costs $800. Let’s hope Mr. Suekichi makes more!
