Bioshock goes Steampunk – Bioshock Infinite

Posted by HAC on August 31st,2010

Irrational Games has announced Bioshock Inifinite,  the next installment in the Bioshock series.

Synopsis:

BioShock Infinite is a first-person shooter currently in development at Irrational Games, the studio behind the original BioShock (which sold over 4 million units worldwide). Set in 1912, BioShock Infinite introduces an entirely new narrative and gameplay experience that lifts players out of the familiar confines of Rapture and rockets them to Columbia, an immense city in the sky.

Former Pinkerton agent Booker DeWitt has been sent to rescue Elizabeth, a young woman imprisoned in Columbia since childhood. Booker develops a relationship with Elizabeth, augmenting his abilities with hers so the pair may escape from a city that is literally falling from the sky. DeWitt must learn to fight foes in high-speed Sky-Line battles, engage in combat both indoors and amongst the clouds, and harness the power of dozens of new weapons and abilities.”

The late Fred Dibnah’s 1912 Aveling & Porter Ltd steam tractor fetched £240,000 at Cheffins Vintage Auction Sale on Saturday 24th July 2010, twice its pre-sale estimate.
It was purchased by Michael Oliver, Chairman of Knutsford based manufacturer Oliver Valves and has assured that Fred’s beloved engine remains in the north-west.
The engine which was last used to pull Fred’s coffin at his funeral in 2004 was lovingly restored over 27 years and featured in Fred’s last BBC TV series ‘Made in Britain’.

Bill King director of Cambridge based auctioneers said ‘whilst the price achieved for this engine far exceeded our pre- sale expectations, it is testament to Fred and his skill and knowledge of traditional engineering and of course his big personality that we received so much interest’.
Michael Oliver has also offered to Fred’s son Jack to have the opportunity to drive the engine and it is intended that the engine appears at Steam Shows across the UK.

From Gizmodo:

“Google Earth’s an incredible (and incredibly useful) piece of software, but there’s still something to be said for the good old, three-dimensional globe. This one not only celebrates the brass-detailed spheres of yore but controls Google Earth for good measure.

John Knight is the tinkerer behind the project, which he calls the Electromagnetic Geospacial Globe and Remote View with Obligatory Goggles, using RFID tags and Touchatag reader to control Google Earth.

Out of Weta’s painting room have emerged  three awesome custome painted rayguns . Sourisak and Jonny have this time been painting on a World War II theme.

Firstly, there’s  “Der Adler or The Eagle, with a paint scheme reminiscent of a Messerschmidt BF109 fighter plane.

Then there’s the “Iron Tiger“, with a livery like the German Tiger tanks that sent chills down the spine of anyone inside an allied Sherman tank.

.. and finally “The Divine Ray” – taking a lead from the “Zero” Mitsubishi fighters that served in the Pacific and are the most commonly associated with Kamikaze – the Divine Wind.

These three guns will be available EXCLUSIVELY at Weta’s booth #2615 at Comic-Con in San Diego that opens in the evening of Wednesday 21 July. First come, first served (but to remain on display until Sunday)

A very special Art Exhibit is happening in Hartford CT July 9 – 16th. The Exhibit features the up and coming theme of STEAMPUNK. Hosted and curated by Joey Marsocci, Proprietor of Dr. Grymm Laboratories of Middletown, CT. This is the second annual STEAMPUNK BIZARRE Exhibit. Because of the size of the show and visitors last year, we have moved to a much larger venue. There are several artists from Middletown, New Haven, Hartford and throughout CT joined by artists from around the country and London, England making a total of 23 Artists. The event also features local vendors contributing to the design and food contributions.

This is a very big event that has turned an International eye from the Steampunk and  Art community, towards Hartford, CT. I have previously been involved in an international Steampunk Exhibit which took place at the Oxford Museum, UK which to date was the most popular exhibit ever to take place in the museum, turning around 75,000 visitors in just a few months.

Come and see what all the Hype is about!
