The Rocket Raygun – A work by Joe Chasse

Blog reader Joe Chasse sent along a link to one of his Steampunk creations, the ‘Rocket Brand Raygun”,  which features motion and lighting effects.

Here’s a short video, showing the effects:   Rocket Brand Raygun

  • HAC, it's an honor to be included in BRASS GOGGLES. Our art universe keeps expanding, dosen't it?
  • Hesseltine
Interesting that the 'note' says ROBOT brand, and not ROCKET brand, while the blog does the opposite...
  • Joe
Yes, that's right Hesseltine. When I made the thing, it was intended to be a ROCKET brand. When my wife printed up the big label it came out ROBOT, and we just left it that way. As I recall, it was a rush to get ready for the upcoming show, and everybody was in a big kerfuffle, so easier to just leave it. In spite of the brand-name glitch, it managed to get judges choice and first in category. NOW the trick is to figure how to get people to come by my little gallery http://informiorium.blogspot.com/2009/06/alrigh... to view studio and works for sale.
  • My wife blow dries her hair every morning with something very similar to that. I guess the death rays are gentler on hair than hot, dry air.

LOL@whoisthiswriter! If you look closely you might recognise a vacuum cleaner, a large coffee percolator body, 65 Ford Tail-light lens, old copper heater reflector, dentist chair headrest bracket, bicycle handlebar thingie. Inside is a 12 volt motor and 2 way drive from an old OLD paper feed depth finder among other goodies...alas, no hair drier...but I DO have a groovy one that is is to be a jet-pack one day!
