Any news on the dates and location for the Steampunk Convention in 2009 ? Also, what kind of classes, seminars, lectures, workshops are planned ? ...or am I confused on the type of convention ?
There is a goodly number in SoCal that are very interested, but didn't hear about the 08 Con in time to attend. Some of us are new to the concept/idea of SteamPunk, but are quite enthusiastic. Any tips, idea, info will be greatly appreciated.
  • Ah but my darlings, you must remember, this was the FIRST Steam Powered! Please do submit your information to our aethernet site (www.steampunkconvention.com) and we would be more then happy to review you for consideration! Keep in mind we are just getting off the ground, were at a smallish venue, and needed to get a feel for the desire of our esteemed Steamy folks to attend such an event. We will be at a bigger venue next year, so keep checking the aethernets for info!
  • . . .next year . . . I meant, obviously. Appologies for the typo. I was shocked when I found myself facing only two other stories in the contest. Lots of adventure writers would love to be hammering out steampunk adventures. They just didn't hear about the contest.
  • "I think that the organizer’s might not be too familiar with the actual people involved in the scene, as like you noted a number of obvious people aren’t involved."

Or with writers and bands who might participate. Hopefully nex year will be swamped with submissions -

Why is it that all these events happen in America. What about Britain!!

Alas I wish I could go.
  • Vernian Process
Yeah I saw that too. I think they meant literally Vernian Atmosphere, as in "This is a Steampunk convention, therefore the atmosphere is going to be vernian"... lol.

I think that the organizer's might not be too familiar with the actual people involved in the scene, as like you noted a number of obvious people aren't involved.

Sorry for the off topic... but when will the forum come back ?
  • The Neverwas Haul Emporium will be there ( the Haul unfortunately will not , it will not fit in the lobby ) with our pins , goggles and steam governor pith helmets , as well the Coronadigitgraphic to make digittype photos of your steamy garb. See neverwashaul.com/ and http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5806216
  • Guh. That's another galaxy far, far away by United. Gots to sell more books I guess. Got to finish my steampunk novel before I can sell it. More Guh.

    No Mr. Process...?
On the site it mentioned "Vernian Atmosphere"...
    I assumed it was you...
Although (in a fit of laziness) I wrote that all the usual suspects were involved, I notice there are several 'significant' names not attending...
    Yourself included Mr. Process...

I have to say I was a little bummed that they didn't ask me to perform at all. I mean I would do it for free, and I live like an hour away from the convention. Oh well.

You should look into the Eccentrik Festival. This year is very much steampunk.

  • While I will unfortunately be unable to attend (thank you over-priced airlines!) I have the proud honor of sponsoring this event (My site will be featured on the program cover).

I hope this show encourages other locations to host their own steampunk events but regardless, I do plan on attending next year as long as circumstances permit.

What is really encouraging is to see the number of Etsy sellers exhibiting. I think that says a lot about the quality of this show.

Oh i wish there was a Steampunk convention in the UK. I can't get to America - curse this lack of money. Unless maybe I build some kind of steam powered machine that will allow me to fly across the atlantic for free...hmm, theres a thought.

Yes, it always seems that the east coast(and the center states) gets the short end of the stick

Hey, OutaSpaceman, what's the status of the forum?
  • Reverend-Captain Pablo Miguel
I too shall be in attendance!
  • I shall be in attendance and will attempt to do my photographic part for those less fortunate. Hopefully the forums will return so everyone can see!
  • Ohhh I want to go... but alas I am an east coaster.... I mean to change that.. at least in the Southeast...
