Dr. Grordbort’s Fantastic New Rayguns!

Dr. Grordbort’s Infallible Aether Oscillators & Other Marvelous Contraptions, that incredible factory of rayguns made by our friends at Weta Workshop in New Zealand, has created two beautiful new rayguns for sale. Pictured above is Lord Cockswain’s Ray-Blunderbuss “The Unnatural Selector” which should be more than enough for one wishing to go on an interplanetary safari. This beauty is quite the beast in terms of size! Follow the jump for a picture that documents the size of this thing as well as a picture of the other new “Infallible Aether Oscillator,” the Goliathon 800 Moon Hater Death Ray! The Goliathon 800 Moon Hater Death Ray! Well, at least a scale model of it. The real one is perhaps situated in a hidden lair on top of a volcano in an island in the tropics or somewhere. This ray-cannon is for those of us who ever wanted to destroy the moon. And who hasn’t?

I love all of the guns but the $700 price is a bit overwhelming. I want the Toys-R-Us version made out of molded plastic and sold for $25. Or perhaps the comic store version with a better paint job and sold for $40. At that price, I'd have them all displayed on my library wall.

Lovely art, pity the guy making them hasn't had a look at any antique or even contemporary weapons since ergonomically those rayguns are absolute rubbish.

If you stick the trigger really close to the pistol grip, it becomes unusable, and to anyone who knows the slightest thing about guns (i.e. not the makers), it looks hilariously wrong.

Hmm, I think "hillariously unusable" is probably what they were aiming for with model rayguns with names like the "Manmelter" and "Victorious Mongoose"... But still unbelievably spiffing

Actually Dr Dan, Greg based his design (at least partially) on the antique toy raygun collection of Mark Servian, the guy behind the RiffRaff statue in Hamilton, NZ, designed by Greg Broadmore and built by Weta. RiffRaff's raygun is also unergonomic, but effectively blows away alien transvestites.
