Airship Pirates!

Dragonship by Studio Octavia

Every once in a while, it’s good to appreciate the beauty of some fine aerial pirate’s dirigible, so here goes! This lovely artwork was done by the talented artist(s) of Studio Octavia and called the Dragonship. More depictions of the Dragonship are available at the Studio’s website, where also much more wonderful imagery of other (sometimes steam-powered) devices may be appreciated!

If you are interested in pirates, here is a link that you may be interested in. It's about Jean Lafitte the pirate. He was a pirate during the 18th century in the Gulf of Mexico. www.squidoo.com/jeanlafitte

The little cabin reminds me of Brighton Pavillion

"We're a crew of drunken pilots,
    we're the only airship pirates,
we're all full of hot air-"

Oh wait, should be commenting on the pictures. To put it simply, they're absolutely brilliant. They seem to blend the detail of a technical drawing with a great deal of artistic flar on the airships, and on the strange war engines.
  • I especially enjoy their land ships. Capital find, Ottens!

I hope they're not using hydrogen for lift, with the smoke stacks right beneath the envelope! I've actually pondered somewhat on the challenges of steam powered dirigibles. One problem is that water is pretty heavy, and unless you have some sort of condenser (very difficult to manage given air's poor heat transfer) you'll gradually expend all of it as you go, losing weight - and of course, so you will burning coal.

Not to say that steam powered dirigibles are a bad idea, just that they present some tricky engineering challenges. But that's the sort of thing mad Victorian inventors live for, what?

    Impressive!

Some nice clothes in the 'Allure" section (e.g #10). Steamy.
