I found this link looking for "plasmapunk" references. Thanks to the interview with JVS, I realized I'm both a steampunk and a plasmapunk (ionized gas, not the other interpretation).

I'm sometimes blamed for the amateur fusion movement, embodied by the fusion hobbyists on fusor.net and talk-polywell.org. From the JVS interview, I conclude that this movement qualifies, and probably defines, plasmapunk. While Franklin was arguably a plasmapunk (lyden jars and electric arcs), I'd credit Philo T. Farnsworth, Robert Hirsch, and Robert Bussard with being the actual founders of the movement. Not that they would admit it. Farnsworth and Bussard both had notable rebellious streaks, and could qualify as "punks".

I note issue 4 of SteamPunk Magazine contains a Jacobs Ladder article. The Hirsch-Farnsworth fusor fusion reactor I demonstrated yesterday at Balticon is powered by a neon sign transformer obtained by dumpster-diving, and is built with a variety of surplus and yard-sale parts and junk.

Sorry Mr von Slatt - I get a great deal of spam and I try to keep it deleted as soon as it arrives. Akismet is very good (and has protected me from 115,000 spam comments and counting) but some do get through that need to be eradicated by hand.
