Black Phoenix Alchemy’s Steampunk Scent – Mechanical Phoenix

Ms Desanera has the most terrible addiction to heady, seductive scents such as those sold by the perfumery with a difference; Black Phoenix Alchemy. While many different styles and inspirations conspire to create their range of beautifully described aromas, their limited edition “Mechanical Phoenix” must surely tickle the imagination (if not the nose) of the fan of Steampunk:

“A mechanical construct: illustrating strong work ethic, determination, creativity, and innovation.
Copper gears, brass cogs, fused wiring, scorched iron, and motor oil.”

Sounds wonderful, and if they do deliver on those scents, then perhaps I’ll be able to stop keeping a cog or two in my pocket for a surreptitious whiff of brass, when the plastic clad world becomes too sterile.  *chuckles*  Thank you, Ms Desanera – what a wonderful addiction to have!  (Image above is by *LaVaCaT of DeviantArt.)

  • Found your site on del.icio.us today and really liked it.. i bookmarked it and will be back to check it out some more later ..
  • This is quite a hot information. I’ll share it on Twitter.
  • This is worth buying just for the graphic art. If the scent is anything like it it'll be a winner.

I tried it and I like it.

I will have to give this Black Phoenix a try! Sounds very interesting!

I just received my shipment of one bottle of Mechanical Phoenix. While it does not, to me, smell precisely like oil or metal, it definitely smells like a very fine men's cologne. Interestingly, BPAL included a frimp (free sample) of Cathode, which smells quite a bit more ozony and mechanical than MP.

Either way, they're both certainly excellent scents. I'd round out a steampunk cent collection with Miskatonic University-- it really does smell like old books, polished wood, and coffee.
  • That sounds interesting, will have to get some:) I like the logo.

Hmm, although I'm not into perfume, I'm curious about this. Might have to get some.

If the steampunk scents make it into the general catalogue, you can get an imp's ear (sample vial) for three dollars. Yes, I said scents - plural. It's going to be a whole line, new prototype scents are being tested now. It's exciting.

And I don't think I have ever actually finished a bottle, but I do take them on rotation, and I've been wearing BPAL every day for about a year and a half. And I'm a slatherer.

Franklin, ironically, most perfume aficionados consider bpal to be very affordable. Unless you really paint the stuff on, 5ml lasts a long time. 6 months to a year, if you use it absolutely every day. If you're rotating with other scents, then a bottle takes that much longer to finish.

What a strange- I mean, interesting- idea!

I would love to get my hands on this marvelous looking stuff, but twenty dollars for five milliliters is a bit too expensive for my tastes.

Alas, there are precious few images of mechanical phoenixes out there - if you should find their secret hiding place, do let me know!
  • Kabuki
All of the best mechs DON'T look mechanical.
  • as a bpal fan, i may just have to test this out!
  • Aeronaut
    It doesn't look very mechanical...
