The DialUpPC Case – Steampunk PC with Phone

The DialUpPC Casemod - Steampunk Phone and PC in One

What a curious creation this is – a computer case design (the creator mentions that as there is no original case, it is not a mod as such) based around a retro look that is very pleasantly Steampunk called the DialupPC.  EnVaDoR, the creator, was asked by Intel to create a case on short notice and this was combined with some quick antique shopping to create the unusual case above.  With a very respectable spec list, the most quirky aspect to this case is that while normal sound will emerge from the front of the case, should you recieve a Skype call or chat initiation, you may pick up the telephone handset to switch the speaker and microphone functionality to the phone automatically.  Very clever indeed.

There are many more photographs on the site, including both internal and before and after shots. Thank you, Mr Brass Alchemist – you were right, I do like this!  Shame about the coasters, somehow – when the rest is so very nice.

Ah yes - my mistake, Mr Ryan. I often get these confused as I percieve a connection between the verb "to coast" and the movement given by casters. I'll try to remember not to do that again *chuckles*

Pretty sure you meant caster, not coaster, at the end of the article, unless this device has some unseen area for holding cold drinks to absorb condensation from the drinks' exterior.

I've been waiting for this kind of technology to crop up! Now all it needs is the (apparently simple) option to connect up multiple phones for around-the-house use, and set we shall be!

Not being much of a "calculation apparatus modifier" myself I have achieved a similar effect, sans home-made wooden box. My Macintosh is connected to a cheap-looking plastic, and well hidden, adapter that in its turn is connected to a telephone. The phone I chose is of the antique kind and decidely un-electronic. So when I am skyped the phone rings, I pick it up and am connected without touching the computer. Also, when my ordinary land-line number is called the same phone rings since the little box is connected to the wall as well. Best of many worlds actually, using inexpensive and ready-made parts.
