My memory of the hand of glory is that it can also be used to render one invisible. Has the maker tested this device to determine whether or not it renders him invisible to rabbits?

Gentlemen please!

Zervo, Slatt and Datamancer - it dissapoints me deeply, of course, that upstanding gentlement like yourselves should have such base thoughts. While I understand that 'in the name of Science!' is a powerful and seductive mistress, and one that encourages you to leave no avenue of investigation unexplored and that the Victorian goal of self-improvement inspires you to seek routes to further mental and physical heights, may I remind you all that ladies of refinement and delicate constitutions visit this humble page, and as soon as I meet one I'll be sure to insist that they avert their eyes from these comments.

Oh no, my dear Datamancer, it needs a much more fanciful Victorian name - some like the "Pneumo Phallo Augmentator" - or better yet Doctor or Professor Somebody's Pneumo Phallo Augmentator - come to think of it, your surname would be particularly appropriate !

OK, we better stop this or TinkerGirl will come down on us like a ton of bricks!

I cannot help but wonder if the initial thought of it being a "cat's paw" contributed to its eventual use in an instrument of (theoretical) thievery?

I'm not sure if I should announce this publicly, but my very first visual impression of this device was that it was a steampunk variation on an instrument used for, ahem, enlargement of certain male extremities.
Sorry about that observation - do continue the more sober discussions here.
