Although Mr Ushanka is indeed right in that the Creature jumped overboard and perished in the Arctic ice after it appeared that Dr Frankenstein was dead, it is a little known fact that the good Doctor had actually succumbed to deep hypotherma and exhaustion and, to the astonishment and pleasure of his ship mates, suddenly awoke soon after. He gradually recovered on the return journey and disembarked at Leith, then a major whaling centre and the port for Edinburgh, where he recommenced his studies.

Unfortunately Mrs Shelley failed to write this part of the story, so I was obliged to do it for her. For your interest we played nightly to good houses of twice the average audience numbers for Edinburgh Fringe shows, and the first-half finale, when amidst a lightning storm the steampunk-style equipment shown whirrs, sparks, smokes and crackles as the Creature comes to life, was particularly well received.

Hey, spoiler warnings. Don't read my post if you don't want to know what happens at the end of the book Frankenstein.

******************YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED****************

Wait, what?

At the end of the book, the beleaguered doctor dies in the arms of the captain of an Arctic fishing vessel (the man who transcribed the whole of Herr Frankenstein's story and whose letters home open and close the novel). Afterwards, Frankenstein's monster (who was hiding in the ship too) becomes revolted with his own actions and plunges into the icy depths. One can assume that he perishes. In other words, I have no idea how this play can take place after the end of Ms. Shelley's book.

**************OKAY YOU CAN START READING AGAIN*************
