The Nautilus custom Steampunk guitar from Thunder Eagle

Above is the second Steampunk custom guitar piece from Thunder Eagle guitars, called The Nautilus.  We have seen the previous one, The Villanizer, before but I think this one is most certainly a worthy successor!  This one is obviously based around the style and story of 20,000 Leagues under the Sea’s most delicious of submariner vehicles, sporting pipes, shell topped knobs, and the wonderful flickering plasma effect porthole at its base.  Once again, this is a guitar that is destined for others hands, but those not fortunate enough to posess it may still enjoy the many pictures and even a video of it in action.  Nicely made, Mr Jeff!

    I like the lego gears!
  • Lego gears are very sturdy, and tryin to inlay the typical thin somewhat flimsy gears out of say a clock prove not only to be less impactful (too thin), but hard to work with as far as cutting to the tightness that needed to get the effect. In short the big reason is lego gears are thick and easier to work with for the application. I am working on an entire assembly of brass gears of varying hieghts to inset into the next steam guitar I do, though they will be encased under a lexan shield ala Kroenen. But it's a totally different app then this one.
  • Aah! The Villainizer uses Lego gears, too!
    Out of curiosity, what made you choose them over "real" gears?

    That being so, additional props are due for a fine piece of work. (Plus extra for the Hocus-Pocus!)
  • Nope, not any heavier then before. The steel is only the thin framework of the plasma disc's "guard", and the oak the struts. As I said on another board, I'm just a skinny shredder from the 80's and if it was heavy, I out of anyone would know. Conscious effort was made for it to be light, hence why I used alot of lexan.

    Might look wieghty, but it's not. ;)

    Thanx for the post Brass Goggles!

    Oak and steel? My word, that will be one heavy guitar. And given the on-stage antics of players normally associated with Dean guitars, I anticipate a few minor injuries.

    ::gasp!::
    Those gears are Lego gears! That's horrible...
    ::shudder::
    It looks awesome, though.
