I absolutely love the whole steampunk genre. I only wish the wife would let me steampunk the entire house. I do agree however that the design does not come across as "steampunk". Think more large scale victorian style machinery and lightning generators. A wall that looks like the control panel of a huge steam powered machine would be a real crowd pleaser. Add in a few brass lamps, some Victorian furniture and intricate mechanical devices and you're onto a winner.

This room is a trip. I don't know who Ms. Sara is, but dollars to doughnuts, she gets the spins every night as she tries to fall asleep. Steam punk, true, makes use of modern and old in innovative ways, but not in a cut and paste manner. Each piece needs to work in the larger aesthetic, the "machine" of the room. The scale is usually so much smaller. Warmer tones. Detail is steam punk's greatest asset. This room does not work for me.

not a comment about the article, I'm afraid, but regarding your style sheet.

Your blockquote text, she is practically unreadable. Do sort it out - an unknown but substantial number of pairs of eyes will thank you for it.

If anyone has suggestions for a good mural image, I'm all for it. I've found a couple possibilities, but I need something with more "up top" than close to the ground (since the furniture will obscure most of the bottom half).

Funny. Before now the only green I associated with steampunk was a nice copper patina.

Oddly, I've had this field on my mind quite a lot lately, having recently received a commission from a gentleman to fabricate a genre specific front door for his home in California.

The thought had actually not crossed my mind until he contacted me regarding the commission, but I would not be guilty of overstatement to term the event epiphanous.

I'm expecting to complete the project in about 8 weeks; I shall keep you abreast of significant milestones during the build.
