High-Dynamic Range Photography of the Edison Bar

HDR photography of th Edison Bar, eecue's photostream on Flickr

It’s been a bit quiet about the Edison Bar in Los Angeles for a while, after the review from the terribly kind Ms Lev, but Mr Ginder wrote to point out the utterly heartclenchingly beautiful high-dynamic range photography from the Flickr user Dave Bullock (eecue) of the club, alive but empty. Such rich colours; dried blood red leather seating, bashed leather patterned walls, shimmering metallic brick effects and huge musty metal boilers and bolts. The HDR definitely works well for the club, giving it that rich but pleasantly unreal effect where the lights glow gently and the glass highlights give off a feeling of a 1980’s whiskey advertisment.

Just lovely, but it worries me that I can’t imagine that the usual clientele would possibly be able to compete with their surroundings. Is it just too lovely?

  • i love this pick cant wait to go to it and see this awesome thing(bar). I am going to be an interior desinger
  • Alice
This is just breath taking!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait to see more.
  • The Edison bar is well-named, and I am no Edison sycophant. As with all things in L.A., and anything carefully constructed to be Steampunk, such as this, there is a bit of artifice going on. As someone said, the place will be filled with trendoids, and yet, we must admire its style nevertheless. As hystericallyaccurate suggests through over-simplification, Edison was rather fond of money, and yet we cannot doubt his technical acumen as well as his ability to wrangle together resources, human and otherwise, in order to foster innovation (even as he stifled the innovations of others). Likewise, the Edison Bar has some cosmetic appeal, and perhaps enough for us to stomach the "trendoids" and no doubt silly, pounding modernist music that one might find there, in order to enjoy the atmosphere otherwise.

The place IS filled with trendoids, so beware.

I know this isn't true of all LA but it makes me sad to think of such a well designed location catering to the likes of Paris Hilton and her Hollywood cronies.

    hmmm not enoght amber lighting......
  • I see on their site http://www.edisondowntown.com/ they are now taking booking for parties and events. The first 'Museum' exhibit perhaps?
  • If they had this place in Seattle I would never leave it.

    the photos are amazing
my only problem is teh name of teh bar
Edison was a tool, an unimaginative money grubbing moron

Tesla is all but completely forgotton, yet contributed exponentially more than Edison

i know it is just a name
    but we gotta vent sometimes
  • fantomas
ooooh...I gotta say, it IS gorgeous.
  • Thanks... also you may want to check out the post where I gave a bit of background about the Edison. =]
  • The Professor
Wow. That is amazing. I'd love one in the cellar, if only I had one. It would be great in a film or TV show.
  • Can you please change the photo credit to:

    Dave Bullock (eecue)

and link to my website, not my flickr page.

    Thanks!

I took a visiting friend here just last week. The interior is fantastic. You can actually walk into the old boiler as it's set up as a lounge. Be prepared to pay though. While there is no cover, one Manhattan, one gin and tonic, and one Sapphire martini came to $35.00. But it was fun for a special night. The place IS filled with trendoids, so beware.

  • Dr. Trakov
