SXSW – Futures of the Past (Music Event)

Futures of the Past

Mr Stephen P pointed out that the artist responsible for lovely Christmas cards last year, has this year posted on her Livejournal, the black and white poster that’s she’s drawn for an upcoming event in Austin, Texas with a serious Steampunk theme!

It’s an SXSW music event in on the 12th of March, but I profess to knowing very little about it, or the SXSW (South by South West) event organisers other than what I have gleaned from their content-dense website.  It seems that SXSW do their music industry business during the day in conferences, and party at night.

“Music by David Demaris and White Ghost Shivers. Featuring Austin Robot Group, Bruce Sterling, visual and interactive artists. $15 suggested donation, or $10 for those in steampunk costume.”

New names to me, but it sounds promising!  Interesting enough that the music industry are having a Steampunk event at all.

  • Bruce is speaking at our event, and I think that listing you posted left out a few key details!!!

We also have Luna Tart performing, two vaudeville groups, and a partner balancing group as well.
    PLUS, there's more!
    Buffet of apps. Drink Tix.
Interactive artwork including works by Steve Brudniak, a time machine by Garreth Wilcock from Burning Man 06, and more artwork from Jennifer Fabian!!!

There's also a much better flyer out. Don't know if you're html coded here, but I'll give it a shot.
In case it doesn't, there's more info and a color flyer at
    www.wednesdaynightdinner.org/whats_new.html
    Thanks!
  • SXSW isn't just music - this appears to be an EFF event - the Electronic Frontier Foundation, eff.org, is a pressure group for digital rights. SXSW is quite techie, I hear. Also, if you're into Steampunk you really should know Bruce Sterling - he practically invented it. Check him on Wikipedia.
