Eccentric Genius – Unconventional Contrivances
Posted by on January 10th,2007
Oh this is just far too marvelous! Mr T McClellan sent a link to the Eccentric Genius page – a page of peculiar and deeply Steampunk artifacts created by a Mr Kaden, with a particular focus on excessively ornate, well made office seige weaponry, but with a pleasant sideline in mesmerising devices and other assortments.
“I build antiques from…er…somewhere else. A parallel universe where Leonardo Da Vinci, John Cleese and Jimmy Neutron spend every Tuesday night playing poker with Sherlock Holmes, and the Victorian era ‘gentleman inventor’ still toils diligently in his potting shed laboratory.”
The image above, for example, is from the Hypnodisk – inspired by the influx of mesmerising devices that cashed in on the craze for all things hypnotic in the 19th Century. They suggest you use it to take over the world, and there is much evil laughter.
Each item is hand made, and while the products page has been closed down, the owner, Mr Kaden (who looks a little like a pirate) does still sell handmade items, but he’s sticking to concept and R&D items so that he can get through some backlog and into new things. I imagine that after making your 30th trebuchet, you may get a little bored too. Still – beautiful things, do check out the gallery for discombobulators, kalimba instruments, ‘Zundbigga’ the amplifier and guillotines.
