Costume Tests for a

Costume test for a student's silent film project

Mr McEwen writes to say that he and his ladyfriend are working on the early stages of a Steampunk themed silent film, for the lady’s art class. Presently they are doing some costume tests, as you can see from their Flickr pool, but I’m very much looking forward to seeing what the finished film will be like. I have to ask though – have you considered using goggles?
I hope you don’t mind, Mr McEwen, but I edited the image to remove the door accoutriments; they were somewhat detrimental to the Steampunk feeling *chuckles* Very best of luck to you both in your silent Steampunk production!

Actually, the glasses being worn are a pair of safety glasses that were more easily avalable and less expensive than goggles, the side sheilds fold down and the ear peices actually fold in front of the glasses. those are actual antques. I own a pair myself.

Very nice costume design, I say. Not too formal yet still not sloppy, just like steampunk outfits should be, in my opinion. While I share our Hostess' interest in goggles, I still consider glasses to be at least just as suitable for steampunk. Especially with the sideshields, they add a lot. But I agree with spyVSspy, another coat would be better. All in all these shots look splendid, and not to sound rude, but your ladyfriend is quite the beauty! Looking forward to further updates about this project.

Use a properly tailored overcoat. Rumpled sleeves and collar won't do.

Well, the glasses do have sideshields...
