Run, Flee! Dakkar of the Deep, Aeolonaut

Friday, February 23rd, 2007

The Lady Katherine wrote to warn me that the aeolonaut, Dakkar a Pesca-Sapien, is now out and about – wandering the dry land! I believe the Baron Von Fogel has much to do with the arrival of this creature and its sidekick (Herbert, the octopus you can see atop the bipedal-protection suit above).
Utterly marvelous [...]

The Tempest Prognosticator – Storm Predicting Leeches

Friday, February 23rd, 2007

Reader Vega wrote to point out the recent post over at The Proceedings of the Athanasius Kircher Society, all about the delightfully bonkers Victorian contraption called the Tempest Prognosticator. Created by the inventor Doctor George Merryweather, it relied on the belief that leeches became agitated and all but leapt around when a storm approached. [...]

Brass Goggles and Aether Emporium Forum

Friday, February 23rd, 2007

It is my pleasure and honour to officially open the Brass Goggles and Aether Emporium Steampunk Forum to the public! Some weeks ago it became blindingly apparent that Steampunk fans are not only amazingly creative (as made obvious by the things that I have the pleasure of posting about) but also enjoy lively discussion [...]

A Return! And a heartfelt thank you.

Friday, February 23rd, 2007

I’m back from my brief away, and much refreshed. While I was up in Scotland, I visited New Lanark, a restored Victorian era cotton mill village which was fun and had some lovely brass and cold steel machinery – I’d recommend it for a short visit, though it’s heavier on the human element, than [...]

Silverfall – PC Game

Silverfall is a mostly high-camera’ed PC RPG, set in the fantasy world of Nelwë – deep in a war for hearts and minds between technology (with a distinct steam and gunpowder feel) and magic. With flying cities held aloft with zeppelins, [...]

Mr Von Slatt’s Steampunk Keyboard

Thursday, February 22nd, 2007

Well, the good Mr Von Slatt has taken the aethernet by steam-powered storm today! His Steampunk Laptop project writeup (to tutorial-level detail) over at the Steampunk Workshop is perfectly marvellous, and his tutorial writing skills are a shining example. My congratulations to you and your Lady, Mr Von Slatt (for she demonstrated your [...]

Wiggers – Builders of Magnificent Sterling Engines

Thursday, February 22nd, 2007

Thanks to our good friend Crab Fu, and his friend Indiana Rog, I am able to bring this (unfortunately-named) German company to your attention. These 100% handmade (no CNC, even), spindly-yet-sturdy amalgams of brass and glass would be a bargain even if they were inanimate. Stationary they are NOT, however! Mr. Rog’s [...]

Foundations for the Museums of Posts and Telecomunication

Wednesday, February 21st, 2007

The kindly and talented Mr. von Slatt has written to tell us of this excellent Hungarian e-museum of antique telecommunications equipment. Now, the unfortunate part is that the site is rather irritating to navigate.  Direct links to the good pages are impossible, so you’ll have to follow the directions below:
1) Click here
2) Click “Visiting of [...]
