The Gyrotourbillon – A Watch Masterpiece

Jaeger-LeCoultre Gyrotourbillon

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Gyrotourbillon (what a mouthful!) is a watch. When I say that, it’s like saying the Crown Jewels are trinkets and jewelry. Steampunk often features cogs and gears – clockwork is certainly a strong theme in many Steampunk things, so please excuse me when I say that the above link and image is probably the equivalent of cog-rotica. There are watchmakers somewhere who need to loosen their collars and have a nice calming cup of tea after looking at this stuff, I’m sure.

It has a gyroscope inside it, designed to combat inaccuracy. The gyroscope surround is made from modern materials such as alumin(i)um and as such it weighs less than a grain of rice. There are golden screws inside to create the right weight in the right size, and the twin power barrels are topped with sapphire covers so that they might still be seen into. It’s so stunning – I find it somehow borderline absurd! Thanks to MikeST to sending in the link using the new link-suggestion page.
