Well, it had to happen – no sooner had I made a snide remark at the lack of Steampunk games, but I find a thoroughly Steampunk total conversion for Unreal Tournament, 2004 called AirBuccaneers. While I do not own UT2004, I’m sorely tempted to go out and pick it up, purely on the strength of this mod. Described on the website as:

“The game is a compelling combination of graceful air ballet, fierce pirate-like action and 3D tactical manoeuvring.”

It sounds and looks wonderful – there’s roughly hewn airships firing cannons across a murky landscape at each other. Characters with bowler hats and portly gentlemen who no doubt still say things like “gg” and “lol!!” a lot I do encourage you to go and take a look at some of the screenshots and the trailer (12Mb wmv). It’s 3 years old now, and made by a team at the University of Oulu, Finland. Well done, gentlemen.
